PROSPECTIVE INSTRUMENTS
Prospective Instruments aims of making multimodal imaging for the life sciences and medical sector considerably more prevailing, cost-effective, easier to operate and, above all, more industrial through the fully vertical integration of core components, selected modalities and radical new design concepts.
The expertise of the engineering team of PI is centred around opto-mechanical and mechatronic design, fabrication, embedded hard- and software design, together with advanced optical design and image processing know-how. Deep expertise in ISO 9001 / 13485 certification, HASS & HALT, high volume femtosecond laser fabrication, as well as lifecycle management complements the team´s expertise.
Contribution to the project:
Bringing advanced biomedical imaging techniques closer to the patient or point of care scenario requires new design and industrial fabrication concepts to finally penetrate the medical market on a larger scale. Prospective Instruments partners with dedicated imaging specialists to bring their respective imaging technologies onto an industrial platform for a wider commercial use.
Key persons
Dr. Lukas Krainer, CEO & founder:
Lukas Krainer founded PI after selling his former companies Onefve GmbH and A.L.S. GmbH to NKT Photonics A/S in 2017. He co-started Onefive in 2005 with the aim of developing industrial-grade femtosecond and picosecond lasers to a wider industrial market. In 2017, Onefive became one of the leading ultrafast laser companies world wide, selling and manufacturing ultrafast lasers to a wide customer base, including lasers for cataract surgery or STED high resolution microscopy.

PI has released the world´s first fully integrated multi-modal imaging system at BiOS / Photonics West exhibition in San Francisco 2020. The system consists of a fully 3D moveable scan head and all integrated lasers, electronics, image acquisition, software etc in a single, compact, easy-to-use, easy-to-transport package. No installation or special facility installations are required to operate the device.
The provided imaging modalities are: Multipoton imaging (2PE, 3PE, SHG, THG), single photon fluorescence imaging and brightfield imaging. The team of PI holds more than 6 patents.
